It’s been a minute since I’ve been here. Homeschooling my girl, and managing and working in the business takes up a lot of time. Well, energy more so. I get to the end of the day, and I’m brain dead. So I’ve been reading. Books are my little place away from the world right now.
I’ve been incredibly slow in the veggie garden this winter. All I’ve had in are some broad beans, cauliflowers, bok choi … and that’s about it. I have a heap of seedlings in punnets, but I’ve been unwell in June and haven’t had the energy to get out into the garden to plant them. And D’s been sick too, so the beds aren’t quite ready. But that’s ok. We do what we can.
I’ve been buying organic veggies from a farmer who comes to town each week. They’re so much more flavourful than what I’ve bought at the supermarket. We’re still getting the organic, grass fed beef directly from farmers and the quality is so great. I can’t rave enough about it enough. I wish I had the space to put another freezer.
I’ve never been one for using frozen meat, but I’ve learnt. I’m finding that I don’t need to go to the supermarket for much at all anymore, as we also order from an organic bulk goods place as well. That’s a win for us in our book, good food and supporting small producers that focus on quality, sustainable and regenerative practices.
We visited a local beef farmer last week, who are raising their cattle using sustainable and regenerative practices, completely chemical free. It was fascinating talking to them about how they’ve set up the farm and their home to be sustainable and regenerative to the ecosystem they’re apart of.
