The blue sky beckons me outside. I turn my back on the window. I will ignore the suns welcoming rays. The steam from my fresh cup of tea delicately licks the side of my screen. Turning back to the screen I stare at the numbers.
They’re dancing, the numbers swim until they merge into majestic skyscrapers made from coloured blocks. Merging and dancing, they soon become a rainbow drawn on a long roll of paper. Mum. Mum. Mum. Tap tap tap. Peppa pig and her friends appear on my desk.
The life of a work at home mum is a delicate dance between caring and entertaining the wee one, and paying the bills. The balance is challenging. Is it something that can ever be achieved, I wonder daily. Hourly even. The constant juggle. Each ball only alive while I can keep moving. Continue the pattern of thowing and catching, to a rigid schedule. You miss one ball, they all fall down.
Sometimes I need to drop the balls. The juggling is exhausting and I need a rest. It doesn’t all end if I do drop the balls for a time. Just pick them up again once I’m ready. The world won’t stop. The world won’t end. Maybe I could try juggling less balls? Or one ball at a time, would that be more effective?
